Plastering & Rendering Across Derbyshire

County-wide plastering, rendering, skimming, lime plastering and damp proofing from a Chesterfield based team with over 30years' experience.

G Lee Plastering is based in Old Whittington, on the North East Derbyshire side of Chesterfield, and from that base we cover plastering and rendering work right across Derbyshire, not just the town on our own doorstep. Close to home that means the villages that ring Chesterfield: Wingerworth, Clay Cross, North Wingfield and Grassmoor to the south and west, Staveley and Brimington to the east, and Dronfield up towards the Sheffield border. Further out, our vans regularly head into the Derbyshire Dales towards Matlock and Bakewell, along the Peak District fringe, and into the Amber Valley towns such as Ripley and Alfreton.

The housing across the county is genuinely varied, and the work reflects that. In the former mining villages like Clay Cross, Staveley and North Wingfield, most of the housing stock is 1930s to 1970s brick and block, and the calls we get are re-skimming rooms after old artex or woodchip has been stripped, patch repairs where ceilings have blown, and pebbledash or render repairs on properties that have stood since the coalfield days. Out towards Matlock, Bakewell and the wider Peak District fringe, the housing shifts to stone-built cottages, farmhouses and the occasional listed building, where solid walls need to breathe and a modern gypsum skim or cement render is the wrong material entirely, we use lime plaster and lime render on that kind of property. Newer estates around Wingerworth and Grassmoor bring more standard skim, plasterboard and extension work.

Whichever end of the county you're in, the same team and the same standard of work applies. We give free, no-obligation quotes, we're fully insured, and after 30years trading out of Chesterfield we've plastered and rendered properties in most corners of Derbyshire at some point along the way.

Derbyshire Plastering FAQs

How far across Derbyshire will you actually travel for a job?

We're based in Old Whittington on the Chesterfield side of North East Derbyshire, and we regularly work right across the county from that base. That covers the villages immediately around us such as Wingerworth, Clay Cross, North Wingfield and Grassmoor, out to Staveley and Brimington, up towards Dronfield and the Sheffield border, and further afield into the Derbyshire Dales towards Matlock, Bakewell and the Peak District fringe, plus the Amber Valley towns like Ripley and Alfreton. If you're unsure whether your village is within reach, call us and we'll tell you straight rather than guess.

Do you cover rural and listed properties out towards the Peak District?

Yes. Stone-built farmhouses, barn conversions and listed cottages around Matlock, Bakewell and the Derbyshire Dales usually need breathable lime plaster and lime render rather than modern gypsum and cement systems, and we've been doing that kind of work for over 30 years. We'll assess the wall construction on site before recommending a system, because getting this wrong on an old solid-wall property causes damp problems rather than curing them.

Do you work in Matlock and Bakewell?

We do, though jobs out that way are usually booked slightly further in advance than work closer to Chesterfield simply because of the driving distance. Get in touch with your postcode and a rough idea of the job and we'll give you an honest timescale.

What about the ex-mining villages like Clay Cross, Staveley and North Wingfield?

These are some of the villages we work in most often. A lot of the housing stock there is 1930s to 1970s, including former council-built terraces and semis, and the common jobs are re-skimming ceilings and walls after removing artex or old wallpaper, patch repairs where plaster has blown, and external render repairs on properties that have been standing since the coal industry days.

Do you charge extra for jobs outside Chesterfield itself?

For most of North East Derbyshire, no, our pricing is based on the job itself rather than a call-out charge. For jobs further out towards the Peak District or the far edges of the county, travel time can be a factor in scheduling, and we'll always be upfront about that before you book anything in.

What's the difference between standard skim plaster and lime plaster, and which do I need?

Standard gypsum skim is right for most 20th century Derbyshire housing, brick or block-built, with cavity walls that can cope with a modern vapour-tight finish. Lime plaster is right for older solid-wall stone or brick properties, common in the Peak District villages and some of the older parts of Chesterfield itself, where the walls need to breathe. We'll tell you which applies to your property rather than defaulting to whichever is easier for us.

Can you match render to an existing rural property?

Yes. Matching texture and colour on an extension or repair to an existing pebbledash, Tyrolean or smooth render is one of the more common calls we get from Derbyshire homeowners, and we'll bring a sample to site before committing to the full job.

How do I get a quote if I'm not near Chesterfield?

The same way as everyone else, call, WhatsApp or use the form on this page with your postcode and a description of the job, and we'll arrange a site visit. Quotes are free and there's no obligation to book.

Do you handle damp issues that are common in older stone cottages?

Yes, damp proofing and plaster repairs go hand in hand on older Derbyshire stone properties, and we deal with both rather than just skimming over a problem that will reappear. If the damp is structural rather than related to the plaster finish, we'll tell you that too.

What's your typical turnaround for a job outside Chesterfield itself?

It depends on the size of the job and the season, but a straightforward room skim or render repair further out in the county is usually no different in scheduling terms to one on our doorstep, we simply factor the drive into the day.

Are you insured for work across the whole county?

Yes, we're fully insured for domestic plastering and rendering work anywhere in Derbyshire we operate, not just close to our Chesterfield base.

Do you offer weekend or evening site visits for customers further out in the county?

We try to be flexible, particularly for customers who work full time and are further from Chesterfield. Ask when you get in touch and we'll do our best to fit around you.
